Rudi is a metal and leather artist working in Vancouver. As he says in his video, he is enmeshed in Celtic art, loves the patterns and the craft, and incorporates the motifs into everything he makes. Bird on the Wire carries Rudi’s belts, books, bookmarks, among a plethora of well-crafted articles. He will be in the shop from 11-4, this Saturday, February 18th.

Karen Yaremkewich from Endure Upcycled Designs– Artist in the Window, this Saturday, October 22, 11-4

Friday, October 21st, 2011

Karen Yaremkewich was one of our recent Private View artists. She works under the name Upcycled Designs, and is known for taking gently used clothing and redesigning them into new pieces. If you saw her work in the store, you would have noticed her fantastical cloaks and jackets, made with an Alice in Wonderland theme. There are also small felt mustaches and burlap boo’ banners suitable for Hallowe’en and Movember. But this Saturday will have a completely different appeal. Karen will be giving a demo on how to turn a outdated wedding dress into an elegant cocktail dress, with plenty of time to inspire you for the upcoming holiday season. Cutting and reconfiguring is met with embellishing and trimming to make her beautifully detailed frocks! Come by and say hello, she will be in the window from 11 to 4!

Karen has a facebook page, please join her here.

Rachael Ashe – Artist in the Window this Saturday, September 24th, 11 – 4

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

We are thrilled to have visual artist, Rachael Ashe creating her wonderful altered books in our store window this Saturday! If you haven’t seen her work before, they are remarkable pieces of intricate and delicately assembled sculptural books that can be hung on a wall, or set on a surface. She combines unlikely materials, like twigs and feathers, with carefully constructed shapes of patterned paper, into whimsical arrangements that take your imagination to far-off places. If you would like to see her assemblage take form, she will be available at the store between 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you didn’t meet her at the recent Private View, this is your chance, I hear she likes chocolate :)
