Robbie Vergara – Artist in the Window, this Saturday, November 26, 11-4

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

We are thrilled to have Robbie Vergara working on his screen printed t-shirts and other textile items as our next Artist in the Window! Also a filmmaker, Robbie has incorporated a wide array of inspiration into his line, and specifically likes to work with 18th and 19th Century Biology drawings. Names like “King of the Raven”, “Happy Bat Face” and “Golden Guns” speak to his perfect blend of bold graphics and surreal imagery. Robbie pulls the ink on a screen to make each individual item so that what looks “the same” is uniquely different, and that process makes these items special in a world of digitally printed items. Wondering what I am talking about? Come down to the store this Saturday, November 26th betweeen 11 and 4 for a look and a chat!

Jon Shaw – Artist in the Window, this Saturday, November 5, 11-4

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Jon Shaw will be painting in our window this Saturday, November 5th, and we sure are excited to see him in action! The amazing and expressive brushstrokes typical of his work are due to his feverish approach to painting, one that is borne out of a short attention span and the need to for immediate results. This is one of those times where I imagine the process as a kind of performance, something that is worth seeing in addition to the completed work.

I would love to claim that Jon’s subject matter ranges from crows, claws and capsicums, but in fact, avocados, billiard balls and self-portraits are also represented, reaffirming his claim that he “makes the most of his personal surroundings and adventures”.
